Course Description: The course content is based on the founding documents of the US government, which provide a framework for its heritage. Historical content focuses on the political, economic, and social events and issues related to industrialization and urbanization, major wars, domestic and foreign policies, and reform movements, including civil rights. Students examine the impact of geographic factors on major events and eras and analyze their causes and effects. Students examine the impact of constitutional issues on American society, evaluate the dynamic relationship of the three branches of the federal government, and analyze efforts to expand the democratic process. Students describe the relationship between the arts and the ties which they were created. Students analyze the impact of technological innovations on American life. Students use critical thinking skills and a variety of primary and secondary source material to explain and apply different methods that historians use to understand and interpret the past, including multiple points of view and historical content. Curriculum developed by the Teachers’ Curriculum institute, History Alive! Pursuing American Ideals, will be used in the course. The curriculum will focus on defining, examining, and debating America’s founding ideals: equality, rights, liberty, opportunity, and democracy.
Scope and Sequence: The course is divided into units correlated to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).

Materials:
A Spiral 3 subject notebook (at least 150 pages), college ruled
Set of color makers or colored pencils
Different colored highlighters
Different colored pens (Such as blue, black, red, and green) I will not grade Pencil! Pencils are for the scantron tests ONLY
Glue stick
Correction Tape
Grading: Students will have a variety of assignments to complete both in and out of class. The categories of grades and their value are as follows:
30% Notebook
30% Activities such as handouts, foldables, and/or quizzes
30% Process = TEST
10% Nine Weeks Test
Progress reports: Progress reports will be issued the second and third six weeks of each nine week grading period. It is the student’s responsibility to share these report with parents.
Plagiarism: Students should not copy information from a book, internet site, or other source without proper citation, nor should they copy the work of other students. Any of these actions will earn all students involved a zero.
